About Us
Step Up! American Association for Rwandan Women is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Since its establishment in 2004, the association has been assisting women and children in Rwanda who survived gender-based and other types of violence during the genocide in 1994 and who continue to suffer from psychosocial trauma and are living with HIV/AIDS.
We established and support operation of the Nsanga Counseling Center in the southern province of Rwanda.
The mission of Step Up! is to work with and support Rwandan women who were raped, and their children born from rape. We assist with trauma counseling at the Nsanga Center, facilitate income-generating projects, provide school uniforms, and sponsor scholarships for high school and university education. Through the years, Step Up! has increased the availability of mental and behavioral health services as well as training to assist the population with a significant trauma history.
